What an impossible yet wonderful task the English Department had over half term! We read some of the most beautifully crafted, precise, and imaginative poetry that we have ever seen from any of our annual National Poetry Day Competitions. Howell's is home to many skilled young poets engaging with politics, the environment, imagination, nature and many more themes.
The range of imagery created was unforgettable and is testament to the enormous amount of work that the students put into their work. This year, there was real evidence of students experimenting with 'vision' in their poems, using colours, pictures, film, and some even writing poems within poems! There was close attention to structure too.
This year's was a close contest; the closest it has EVER been.
After much careful thought, debate, and reflection on the theme of ‘Vision’, we are delighted to announce the winners for this year:
