Nursery and Infant Sports Days 2019

After successful two Sports Days for the older students earlier this term, it was the turn of the youngest members of the school to show their skills on Monday 15th July. The excited parents were joined on the new Outdoor Play Area by Mrs Scott and the nursery girls in the morning, with 45 girls taking part in four different events including the Bear Hunt Race and Jewel Collecting Race. It was great to see them putting into practice all that they have learnt this year. Congratulations to all of the students and a huge thank you to the Nursery staff and PE department for running such an enjoyable morning of activities.

With the nursery girls returning to their classrooms, the PE department began setting up the athletics track for what would prove to be another busy afternoon of events for girls in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The excitement was really starting to build, with parents setting up picnics on the field to enjoy with one another ahead of their child's arrival. The afternoon started with a bang, as some excellent running and agility skills were demonstrated in the Over and Under Race. This was followed by the Sprint, Hoop and Bean Bag, Egg and Spoon, Quoit Balancing and Sack Races, but it was perhaps the Lap Race that wowed the audience the most. Every single girl in the Infant School ran this race with an incredibly high energy and determination, with medals going to those finishing in first, second and third. The imaginary podium was also used to celebrate the medalists for the Sprint Finals too (see results below), before the girls took part in the relay events to conclude the day. Well done to all of the students for competing so well, but a special congratulations to Hywel, who took home the House Cup!

Alongside the events on the track were the Howler Throw, Standing Long Jump and Speed Bounce competitions for the parents. Congratulations to Mr Meenagh, Mr Chamberlain, Mr John and Mr Williams who took home the prizes with some excellent individual performances.

Due to the groundworks associated with creating our wonderful new sporting facilities, Sports Day for the Infants has been off-site for the past two years, so it was great to be able to welcome everyone back this time! Thank you to all parents for supporting the event so well and a special thank you to all of those who joined us for Pimm's and strawberries in the pavilion at the end of the day—these refreshments will be available throughout the event next year for parents to enjoy in the sun!
