Politics and Power in the Drama Room

Following some magnificent performances of an extract from ‘Blood Brothers’ by Willy Russell, 8Q Drama began to discuss ideas of inequality in contemporary Britain. An array of opinions and viewpoints erupted and the conversation moved onto the of the role media in shaping our views.

Well done to Aleezah K, who challenged some of the stereotypes perpetuated by the media, teaching the class that ‘Housewife’ in Arabic translates as ‘Queen of the House.’

She went on to explore this idea by writing the following poem:

Queen of the House
She is the Chief of her family,
She is the Principal of her work,
She is the Master of her future,
She is the Leader of her life,
She is the Possessor of her dream,
She is the Queen of the house,
She is a Woman.
