The audience attending the Prep School's musical evening on Thursday 9th May were in for a treat. Performing to a capacity audience, over 70 girls took part in what is one the instrumental pinnacles of the Prep School year! The girls played a wide range of instruments, either as soloists, or as part of an ensemble and delighted their public. All of the instrumental ensembles took part, including the Junior Wind Band, String Machine, Shake, Rattle & Roll, 4 Rock Groups, the Junior Flute Choir and the Junior Orchestra. There were super performances too from our Year 3 violinists, Year 4 trombonists, and cornet players after their term of class lessons. Eight soloists thoroughly entertained their audience with outstandingly polished performances. The high standard of musicianship and the enjoyment of the girls was evident throughout the event. The evening opened with distant sounds of a marching band approaching down the corridor as the Junior Wind Band paraded smartly into the hall playing Colonel Bogey. There was an unexpected performance from the orchestra of a newly orchestrated ‘concerto’ for balloon, which had the audience in stitches! The concert closed with an atmospheric rendition of the Dr Who theme from the Junior Orchestra. Thank you to all the parents and friends who supported the event, to the girls who performed so superbly and to the staff who helped make the evening such a success.
