Renaissance Day 2019

Renaissance Day 2019

On Tuesday 16th July, visitors to Howell's would have been forgiven for thinking that they had stepped back in time, as students and staff took part in our first Renaissance Day, dressed in floor length velvet gowns and rustic peasant garb. A full day of period activities had been planned. In Biology, students created accurate botanical drawings, Maths had them solving puzzles that would make da Vinci himself think twice, in the art rooms the students created highly detailed drawings of the human form and there was a music workshop where the students sang a song about Henry VIII’s wives to the tune of ABBA’s Money Money Money, and lunch for everyone was an outdoor banquet of roast meats, pies and freshly baked bread.

The Prep School girls also took part in a variety of activities, including Tudor dancing, bread making, Jester workshops and performing Shakespeare in front of a green screen. The girls also created pop art versions of the Mona Lisa and completed a da Vinci-inspired treasure hunt.

In was a wonderful day, thank you so much to all the staff who really went to town with the theme and gave the students a wonderful experience.
