Skills Cymru Careers Exhibition

Year 10 spent a highly interactive morning on Wednesday 10th October engaging in a whole host of activities, tasters and virtual realities at the Skills Cymru Careers Exhibition at the Motorpoint Arena. They were fortunate to be able to access over 100 career stalls to gain insight into the skills and qualities required by future employers. One of the most interesting was a group of Newport based companies who explained that they will have over 3000 STEM jobs in South East Wales in the next 10 years and are seeking to fill the skills gap. A whole range of colleges and universities were present highlighting alternative pathways to employment whether apprenticeships, degrees or internships.

The girls show their enthusiasm in their comments :

“We went to see a medical stand that could predict if we were going to grow any more. A scan showed that if there is a crack in the growth plate you are still growing and if it’s fused you’ve stopped.  We also looked at an Army stand and a variety of engineering stands explaining jobs and how you could get to do them.” Lucy B, Saffron B, Anna T and Georgia G

“We visited Cardiff Met and saw a robot that could speak to us and carry out actions.”
Vihara J, Milly C, DelythTW and Becky A

“It was fun and informative to get the latest facts from the large and varied world of work we are about to enter.”
Abhavya A, Rhianne H, Kitty N and Jennifer E

“We visited Europass and we found out that if you want to you can work abroad with the help of their company.”
Rosie T, Sophie V, Gracie D, Olivia T

“We visited Food science and found out that there are a lot of different jobs associated with food that we didn’t know about."
Serena D, Manahil K, Zahra T

Georgia G tried out a flight simulator and said it was really good fun but it was hard to control and when you were nearly upside down it was quite scary.

“We visited the ambulance and it was really interesting.”  Barbara G, Eloise M, Grace E, Maddie B and Izzy W
