The Under 11 Tennis team won their third successive South Wales Championships on Thursday 21st June, adding the Mini Green title to the Red and Orange titles they've won in the previous two years. Grace C, Issy C, Emily T and Olivia T qualified for the South Wales Finals after defeating all teams from Cardiff last month, including a thriller with a fellow Howell's team in the city-wide final. On Thursday, they played their way past St. Mark's School (Pembrokeshire) 6-0, Clytha Primary (Newport) 5-1 and Ysgol Y Fenni (Abergavenny) 4-2 to reach the semi-final. In the semi-final, they defeated Dinas Powys Primary (Vale of Glamorgan) 6-0 to set up a rematch with earlier foes and last year's finalists Ysgol Y Fenni. After the four singles rubbers, the score was tied at 2-2, meaning the two doubles rubbers would determine the outcome of the match. Thanks to a convincing win in doubles rubber #1, the points total achieved by Howell's outweighed that achieved by Y Fenni, so the team were crowned champions again! It was a great day of tennis by the girls, who have had another fantastic sporting year. Next week, it is the turn of the Under 10 and Under 9 Tennis teams, who are playing in their South Wales Finals on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Good luck to all involved!
