The Year 8 and 9 Tennis Team travelled to Millfield Prep School on Monday 8th October to play in the South West Regional Semi-Final. The fixture was very competitive, with all girls evenly matched. With all singles rubbers starting at the same time, it was Meg C who was first to finish her match, winning 6-1. Becky D was on the losing end of the same scoreline on her court, putting the match at 1-1 overall. Despite playing really well and matching her hard-hitting opponent for a lot of the match, Lucy G went down 6-2 in her rubber, before Anya DA impressively came back from 4-1 down to win 6-4. This drew the match level at 2-2 heading into the doubles rubbers. Becky and Meg raced to an early lead and held their nerve to win 7-5, but unfortunately Anya and Lucy couldn't follow suit, falling 6-4 after holding a commanding lead. At 3-3, the match had to be decided by a doubles shootout, with one member from each doubles pair combining to play out a championship tiebreak (first to 10) that would decide which team would advance to the South West Finals. Millfield Prep managed to stay in front throughout the tiebreak, eventually booking their place to the Finals with a very close 10-8 win. It was a fantastic fixture with both teams playing some really impressive tennis. The girls were disappointed not to progress but have been spurred on to go further in the competition next year!
