ROWING
After tough trials, Year 13’s Izzy P has been selected for the third year running to represent Wales at the Home International Rowing Regatta on Saturday 22nd July in Strathclyde. In her final year as a junior, she will be competing in a coxless quad, a fantastic achievement considering her heavy training schedule coupled with exam preparations. Izzy will train with the squad during the week leading up to the event, before heading to Scotland to carry the flag for Wales. Good luck Izzy, everyone at Howell’s will be cheering you on!
Howell's students had a wonderful and successful time at the Llandaff Regatta on Saturday 8th and 9th July, meeting rowing legends Matthew Pinsent and Helen Glover. Congratulations to Talia G and Olivia W who won double sculls for their age group.
Katie G is competing in the British Rowing Championships in Nottingham this coming weekend. She is competing in the single skulls and as part of the team in the quad boat. We would like to wish Katie the best of luck.
TRIATHLON
Congratulations to Fiona B of Y8 who has been selected to represent Wales at triathlon. Fiona competed at the Urdd Gemau Cymru qualifying triathlon earlier this month, where she won a silver medal, and she will now go on to represent Wales at the British Championships at Mallory Park, Leicestershire in August. Fiona is in the Tristar 3 age group which typically involves a 300m open-water swim, followed by a 7km bike leg and finishing with a 2km run. We wish Fiona all the very best of luck at the championships.
SPORTS DAY
On Tuesday 11th July, Howell’s held its Inter House Athletics event at Leckwith Athletics Stadium. The dreadful weather forecast did not materialize and the students enjoyed a busy day at the track. Great performances were witnessed from the students with Baldwin finally taking the trophy.
