ROUNDERS
Christ College

Year 7, 8  and 9 A and B travelled up to Christ College Brecon for a rounders match on Wednesday 21st June. Howell’s won 3 out of 4 matches. Years 7 and 8 played against their own age group and Year 9 A played the Christ College Year 10 team which they won by 1 rounder. The Year 9 B team played really well but sadly lost. A lovely afternoon was had by all.

SPORTS ASSEMBLY
On Friday 23rd June Sarah Collins came and presented a motivational assembly to the Senior School. Sarah was an International Freestyle swimmer who had represented England in the Commonwealth Games. Sarah showed some video clips of her swimming and told the students about the time she had fallen and broken three ribs prior to swimming in an International Gala, but she still went on to win a Bronze medal.  What an achievement!

TENNIS

On Thursday 22nd June the U.13 team travelled to Radyr Comprehensive to take part in the Aegon National Tennis Championships. They were due to play both Radyr and Corpus Christi, but Radyr were unable to field a team. The students played well against Corpus managing a draw after playing all the rubbers. A final match took place in the form of a doubles pairing of player 1 and 3 from each school playing a golden tie break with the winning team reaching 10 points. I am glad to say that Howell’s were victorious.
On Monday 26th June, both the U.13 and U.15 teams played against Whitchurch. Both teams played extremely well and won all their matches. Well done girls!

HOCKEY
On Friday 23rd June, Lily R (year 9) and Ffion H (year 10) departed for Lille with the Wales u16 team to train and play France u16 in preparation for the Euro 5s tournament in mid July. There were four friendly matches against a very strong French team. Lots of experience was gained with Ffion making some amazing saves and Lily scoring two goals. The team bonded well over the three days and lots of progress was made. Good luck Ffion and Lily!
