On the evening of Thursday 23rd March a full audience of families, students, governors, friends and alumni gathered in the Sports Hall for the annual Spring concert.
The first half of the featured the very best of our Senior School ensembles, who performed music by composers from Mozart to Menken. The second half consisted of a very moving performance of Fauré’s beautiful Requiem. Howell’s has always been defined by its sense of family, making it a very special place to study and work, and music has always been a valued asset, bringing together different ages, abilities, peer groups, staff and students. The concert perfectly embodied this sense of community as staff and students, past and present, performed side-by-side. Year 7 tackled Latin pronunciation and mastered the soprano line in their weekly music assemblies. The Senior Choir, featuring the most experienced Year 10-13 singers, performed alongside College Choir, which is an unauditioned ‘wellbeing’ choir for Years 12-13 and staff. It was particularly special that twenty-five Hywelians performed in the choir and orchestra, some of whom hadn’t visited Howell’s in decades.
It was a wonderful evening and we are extremely proud of the standard and ethos achieved by our musicians at this very special concert. Many thanks to Ms Edwards, the entire music department and everyone involved who made the evening such a triumph.
