Following the Summer Assessments, our Year 8 French students have been researching Paris, using sources in both French and English. This has led to some very creative and informative student presentations on a wide range of historically and culturally important monuments and buildings in the French capital. Limei J and Carys M discovered that 400 firefighters were deployed when Notre Dame caught fire in 2019; Liana N and Ella W found out that la Tour Eiffel was due to be demolished in 1909 but was repurposed as a radio antenna and that the paint on the tower weighs the same as 10 adult elephants; Isobel M and Florence C informed us that it would take 100 days to view the 35 000 masterpieces in the Louvre; Yabesra G and Daisy D searched for the history of the iconic Moulin Rouge, essence of Bohemian Paris; Lauren H and Christie T presented the Le Marais quartier, using atmospheric music and colourful photographs to bring the area alive; and Seren H, Cindy L and Daisy Mo D explained how the Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon in the early 19th century. It was a delight to witness their enthusiasm as the students presented their findings to their classmates this week.
