We are thrilled to announce that Hywelian Ann Cotton, who attended school from 1960 to 1967, won the Alumna of the Year Award at a reception in London on the evening of Wednesday 11th June. Forty alumnae of GDST schools were nominated for this prestigious award and six were short-listed. All of these have most impressive achievements to their credit. Ann set up the charity CAMFED (Campaign for the Education of Children in Africa), of which she is now President. It has made possible the education of over two million girls from poor families in sub-Saharan Africa, and so has completed transformed their and their families' lives. Ann was thrilled to accept the award (a trophy and a cheque for her charity) and is very pleased that we nominated her. In turn, of course, we are delighted for her! Thank you to everyone who voted for her. She has already paid a couple of visits to school recently and we look forward to seeing her again.
