Open Doors 2014

As part of the nationwide Open Doors scheme, under which buildings of architectural and historical interest are open free to the public on a specified date in September each year, we opened our doors to visitors on the morning of Friday 19th September. Howell's has participated in this scheme every year since it began. The visitors were welcomed with tea or coffee and Welshcakes in the Board Room, where they had a chance to look at the school museum, watch the Howell's Then and Now slide presentation and see the display on Howell's in the First World War. Mrs Sully then led the visitors on a two-hour tour of key parts of the main school, the Junior School, the Nursery and the Music Department. A few also had the energy to visit Oaklands and Bryntaf, and returned to the Board Room to have a closer look at the museum!  Everyone enjoyed the tour, including two Hywelians who had not been back to school since they left about fifty years ago, and commented on the happy atmosphere and excellent facilities.
