Girls excel in Easter swimming championships

The British Gas Swim Wales Age Group Championships were held at Wales' National Pool in Swansea over the four days of Easter. Several girls had qualifying times to enter this competition: India B., Marnie B., Claudia M., Olivia M., Jessica R. and Sioned C. All girls achieved personal best times in most if not all of their events and India, Claudia and Marnie were fast enough to make it into the finals. These were very daunting, with the checking of legal swimsuits, the possibility of drug testing and then each girl being announced onto poolside one at a time. The girls showed real strength of character, setting more personal best times in the final. Special congratulations should go to India B. who won a silver medal in the 200m Individual Medley. This was a great achievement for her and now means that she is the second fastest 13-year-old in Wales in that event and in the top 50 in Great Britain. All the girls are to be commended for their commitment and dedication to the sport, which requires a huge amount of training, whilst continuing to do well with their studies at school.
