As Howell’s basked in glorious sunshine on Sunday 2nd July, over 100 students, parents, alumni, staff and friends filled up water bottles, pulled on the Lycra and checked their tyres ready for this year’s Champagne Cycle Challenge to raise money for the Bursary Fund. A group of elite cyclists led superbly by Mr Biebrach and Mr Walters set off for Ogmore on Sea at 9am for an mammoth 70 mile trip. Mr and Mrs Elmes rolled up on their tandem along with Mrs King to lead the next group for a round trip to Cardiff Bay, where everyone enjoyed an ice-cream in the sunshine. The final group, led by our former community police officer Nigel Pope, left at 1pm for a picturesque trip up the Taff Trail to Tongwynlais. Everyone arrived back by 3pm for a glass of bubby, a delicious barbecue and the Summer Fair, where they were joined by many more members of the Howell’s community. The happy sound of children enjoying the mega slide, bouncy castle, coconut shy and face painting could be heard coming from the Headmistress’ Garden. Every member of staff who worked on Sunday gave their time for free, to ensure that as much money as possible could be raised for the Bursary Fund, and our generous suppliers donated food for the BBQ to help us fundraise for such a worthy cause. Many thanks to all the staff, students and volunteers for all they did to make it such a special occasion.
