Tennis
On Saturday 18th September, Robyn competed in the annual Lisvane Tennis Championships Final. She successfully got to the final, outwitting her opponents, may of whom were older and more experienced players. The weather held out nicely for her final game and she managed to secure a 6-0 6-2 win in a very good match. Robyn is now the Ladies Lisvane Tennis Champion 2017.
GDST Southern Rally 2017 at Portsmouth High School
Fifteen girls travelled to Portsmouth this week to compete in Rounders, Badminton and Trampoline. The rounders took place on a very blustery sea front and left the girls feeling wind swept and glad they live in Wales! Despite the winds the girls won three of the four matches and lost the tournament by just one rounder! After an excellent day of batting and fielding, the nominated players of the tournament were: Lucy G, Ellie M, Olivia H (twice) and Becky D.
The badminton competition was tough, with many girls from the other GDST schools currently playing at county level. It was a great learning experience for Megan and Cheryl, and the girls finished 3rd overall.
Trampoline was new to the GDST this year and Howell’s shone; despite not having our own trampolines in school the girls did extremely well. Lucy and Fraya won gold and Zoe silver. Ellie competed for the first time and enjoyed it very much.
Well done to all girls who competed.
U14 Hockey
The U14s took on Cardiff High School this week. A good start to the season with some nice play from the girls. We look forward to preparing the girls for the GDST tour to Bath in November.
