HOCKEY
The Year 7 Hockey teams qualified for the County finals which took place at Ysgol Glantaf on the afternoon of Thursday 22nd March. Both the A and B teams had qualified for this tournament. The A team played Bro Morgannwg, The Cathedral School, and Glantaf. They played some excellent hockey, winning against both The Cathedral School and Bro Morgannwg. The A team ended up as the County runners up. Goals were scored by Rosie T, Becky L, Becky D and Lucy G.
The Year 7 B team played Bro Morgannwg, Glantaf and Plasmawr. In the first match against Bro Morgannwg the girls managed to come back from being 0-2 down at half time to draw the match 2-2. In the second match against Glantaf the girls were trailing by 0-1 at half time but with a goal scored in the final minutes of the match Howell’s managed another draw. In the final match against Plasmawr the girls outplayed Plasmawr and the final score was 7-0. Olivia H scored 6 goals in the tournament and Grace M scored 4. This meant that they ended up as County runners up.
This is a brilliant result from all the girls as Howell’s School Year 7 A and B teams are now both County runners up. A big thank you to all their coaches Geoff Roderick and Claire Hamilton

NETBALL
With the Netball County Finals played last Friday, the Year 7 and 9 students were able to have some fun playing Kings Monkton School, Whitchurch High School and St Johns College.
Year 7A played against a mixed Year 7 and 8 Kings Monkton team. They displayed excellent defending and attacking skills with everyone contributing to the team’s success with a 11-6 victory.
As it was Year 7 Games afternoon, a few other girls were also able to form a team and play Kings Monkton girls, and although they played really well they lost 0-5. This score does not really reflect on the true game played. Beth D. was named ‘Best Player.

Year 9 played their “friendlies” on Tuesday and Wednesday. As it is the end of the season the teams were mixed, everyone had lots of fun and it was lovely to see the teams merged for a one off fixture. The results were Howell’s versus Whitchurch High School 1st team 23-9 and the 2nd team losing just 8-5, Jessica J, Lily R, Katie G and Pascha were named Best Players.
Well done to Year 9 on such a successful year, we look forward to the next season of 2017-2018.
