Hockey
Year 7 Hockey v. Glantaf
Monday 13th March Year 7 A and B teams played against Glantaf. Although both teams played well they were beaten by two incredibly strong Glantaf teams. The A team lost 7-0. And the B team 8-2. The Howell’s goals were score by Sommer B and Sophie D.

Year 9 Welsh Final in Wrexham
After a fantastic victory at the Cardiff & Vale Under-14 Girls Hockey Finals last month, the girls from Howell’s School were representing the area at the Welsh Finals in Wrexham on Tuesday 14th March. Accompanied by Mr Baker and Mrs Mills, the girls travelled up on the evening of Monday 13th March in high spirits. After a night in the nearby Premier Inn, the girls played their first of 5 matches against Caerleon Comprehensive School (South-East Wales) early in the morning. It was a slow first half, but HSL came out firing after the break and ran-out victors with a 3-0 scoreline. Up next were Bro Dinefwr (Dyfed), and despite conceding for the first time, it was the same result. This time Howell’s winning 3-1 with some well-worked goals from penalty corners. The final group game of the morning pit HSL against Tywyn (Eryri). In what was arguably their best hockey of the day so far, the girls scored four very impressive goals in a 4-0 win to finish as group winners. In doing so, the girls were then up against the runners-up from Group 2, Brynhyfryd (North East Wales). A dominant performance ensured that the ball didn’t leave the opposition half throughout the game. Howell’s managed to make the pressure count, running out 6-0 winners and booking their place in the final. It was familiar foe in the final, with Bro Dinefwr (runners-up from Group A) defeating Bishopston (Swansea; Winners of Group B) in the second semi-final. A fast start saw HSL take the lead, and despite two goals by their opponents, the girls remained in control through scoring four of their own to win 4-2. All players were superb throughout the long and arduous day and credit must go to them for their commanding performances against Wales’ best. Thanks to Mrs Mills and the parents for their great support from the sidelines! This was an undeniably well-deserved finish to a fantastic season that included a 2nd place finish at the Under 14 GDST Hockey Tour and another 2nd place finish at the Under 15 GDST Hockey Tournament. These girls have a very bright hockey future ahead!

Netball
Year 7 played in two matches against Plasmawr on Monday evening. The team was rather depleted as many of the girls were representing Howell’s in a hockey match against Glantaf. They fought well but unfortunately Plasmawr were the stronger team on the day. Players of the matches went to Tilly S and Grace W.
Year 7 took four netball teams to play Whitchurch on Wednesday. This was their last game before the season ended….and we came away with four wins! Excellent play by everyone involved, a real team effort. What a way to end their first season together.
Swimming
We are delighted that Imogen F (year 7) has been selected to represent City of Cardiff Swimming Club at the forthcoming gala in Stuttgart, Germany, during the Easter holidays. We wish her good luck!

Fencing
Congratulations of Louise S. (Year 11) who represented the school in U16 épée at the Public Schools Fencing Championships at Crystal Palace on Wednesday. Louise fought like a fiend, wining against every fencer in her first two poules. She made the cut into the last 32, 16 and 8 by direct elimination, eventually securing 5th place. This was a tough competition, involving an arduous 6 hours of fencing!
