Cardiff University students from the School of Computer Science helped to host a coding day for Year 7 this week. The girls learnt about Python using Microbits; used the Raspberry Pi to work on Minecraft; programmed Lego robots, Obots and Sphero to follow commands; and wrote code for a computer game using Swift Playgrounds where the character Byte had to collect gems. The day was busy and fun-packed and it even started off with a teacher performing a magic trick! Which was of course was explained using computational thinking! Hopefully the girls were inspired to find out more about coding and that one or two of them may even go on to become the computer programmers of the future.
