Junior School Hockey Successes

It was the first competitive hockey fixture of the school year on Wednesday 29th September, with three HSL teams from Year 5 and Year 6 travelling to Sophia Gardens to take on The Cathedral School. The Year 6 team encountered very tough opposition and despite improving vastly in the second half of play, were unable to beat the outstanding Cathedral School goalkeeper and lost the match. Well done to Alex P, who clearly stood out in her first performance for the school since joining 4 weeks ago, and to Meghan S, voted ‘player of the game’ by her opponents. Year 5 similarly struggled to get past the goalkeeper during the early stages of their match, but found the net four times in the second half to deservedly win a very close game! Well done to Emily T, Olivia T and Jess C who shared the ‘player of the game’ honours! In the final match of the afternoon, a mixed Year 5 and Year 6 team stole the show with an outstanding 6-0 victory! Three goals apiece for Keziah E and Lucy A were the product of some excellent midfield and defensive work by the rest of the team! Well done to all girls involved in the first fixture against Cathedral School. Attendance at after-school practices has been very impressive, which bodes well for the upcoming flurry of fixtures!
