On Thursday 19th January, two teams made up of students from Years 10, 11 and 12 represented Howell's in the Senior 'Youth Speaks' Public Speaking Competition. They were up against stiff opposition this year but performed magnificently.
Doriana D (Year 11) gave a thought provoking speech considering the impact and consequences of adverse childhood experiences. She was ably supported by Rima A-R (Year 11), who only stepped into the role of Chairperson a few days before. Because of unforeseen circumstances, the team was completed on the day itself by Elin S (Year 12) who literally prepared her contribution on the way to the competition. She gave a positive, successful and complimentary Vote of Thanks.
The Year 10 team were participating in the Senior Competition for the first time this year and they too gave a performance that was very impressive. Manon G made a calm, controlled and effective Chairperson while Alaina K gave a really appreciative speech thanking Morwenna, who was the speaker for this team. Morwenna's speech challenged the audience to speculate about the art of storytelling and whether it had lost its 'magic' in today's hectic lifestyle. She did a great job and won the prize for Best Speaker - a fabulous achievement considering the excellent standard of the night's performances.
Every student involved was a delight to work with and we were very proud of them all.
