ESU Primary School Public Speaking Workshop March 2020

How much noise do 100 10-year-olds make? Rather a lot, if you get them all in the Great Hall and teach them how to use their voices to full effect. This term, Howell’s is joining forces again with the English-Speaking Union to host the annual Primary School Public Speaking Competition for children from nine local primary schools—plus a team from Howell's Prep School— which will take place on Wednesday 18th March.

In order to prepare the children for the competition, 10 students from each school attended a public speaking workshop on Tuesday 3rd March, led by Mr Walters. The lively and engaging workshop taught the children about the different roles in a public speaking team, helping them develop confidence when talking to groups of people through a variety of tasks and games. During the workshop, a group of Year 10 and 11 girls from Howell's gave the children an insight into being part of a public speaking team. All the children took an active role in the workshop and were full of great energy and exciting ideas.  At the end of the afternoon, every school was assigned a different topic to present at the competition in two weeks' time.  We look forward to welcoming back a team of three students from each school.
