English-Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition South Wales

On Thursday afternoon we hosted the English-Speaking Union Churchill Public Speaking Competition South Wales heat in the Margaret Lewis Memorial Library. Catrin B., Elin S. and Mansi V., all in Year 11, competed against representatives from three other local schools for the opportunity to progress to the regional finals which will take place at Ty Hywel in Cardiff Bay on 14th March.

The competition was stiff with speeches on the BBC licence fee, A&E treating drunks and feminism. Mansi’s speech, ‘Modern technology makes us ever more self-obsessed’, and Catrin and Elin’s performances in support of the speaker from The Cathedral School, were excellent.

They were judged to be the best overall team on the day. The team will progress to the regional final, with the UK final to take place on 30 April. Good luck, girls!
