Alice wins prestigious writing competition

Alice B. (Year 7) has won this year’s prestigious ALCS (Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society) /Carnegie writing competition on the theme of ‘What Reading Means To Me’.

The competition aimed to highlight the protection copyright gives to writers, showing students how their permission has to be sought for someone else to be allowed to use their work. Students across the UK  were invited to take on the role of a journalist and write a feature for its online magazine, ALCS News. Alice wrote a beautiful and moving piece which can be read by clicking here. Kathryn Marsh, Communications Advisor at the ALCS remarked of Alice’s entry: “We had over 600 entries and Alice’s entry really shone; it was lovely to read.”

Many congratulations to Alice who has won tickets to the Carnegie and Greenaway Award Ceremony in London on the 22nd June 2015, a Samsung Galaxy tablet, a selection of Carnegie and Greenaway shortlisted books and £500 worth of books for the Howell’s School library.  Her winning entry will be published in the July edition of ALCS News and on the ALCS website.
