On Monday evening, 29th June, we held our first languages evening for the Senior School and College, which will become an annual event.
About 50 girls from Years 7-10, supported by our College Foreign Language leaders, performed a mixture of sketches, poetry, songs, instrumental items and recitations in Latin, German, Welsh, Spanish, French and Italian. Pieces included Debussey’s "Clair de Lune", a Flamenco demonstration, this year’s winning Urdd submission (an amusing poem where an older sister gives a younger sister advice about starting secondary school), an extract from "The Marriage of Figaro" ("Voi Che Sapete") and a Spanish rap ("Expresate!"). Our Year 10 students also made their own arrangement for us - a Welsh medley, combining Calon Lân and Ar Hyd a Nos. The evening opened with all the performers singing a bilingual (English/Latin) adaptation of Disney’s ‘Whole New World’ and finished with the Year 12 Language Leaders giving a stirring rendition of Frozen’s ‘Let it go’ in five languages. Our talented kitchen staff put together a delicious buffet of languages-themed goodies – pâté, camembert, paella, bara brith etc. and we were entertained beautifully by Melissa H. from Year 13, who played a selection of musical items on her harp.
All in all it was a lovely evening and we would like to thank all the parents who came to support us and, of course, all the talented students who participated.
Merci, Danke, Gracias, Diolch!
