Intrepid cyclists complete Champagne Cycle Challenge

Many congratulations and thanks to the 70 cyclists (students, staff, parents, families, friends, governors and Hywelians) who took part in our third Champagne Cycle Challenge on Sunday 5th July. They braved wind, rain and hail to complete this challenge that has become an annual fixture at Howell’s. The first intrepid group left Howell’s in the early hours of Sunday morning, cycling 88 miles to and from Talybont, and faced very difficult weather conditions throughout their journey. At the more civilised time of 12pm the second group set off to cycle from Pontypridd and no sooner as they departed the heavens opened. The third group left Howell’s at 2pm and cycled to Tongwynlais and back. By this point, thankfully, the weather had improved substantially.  At 3pm Mrs Keeping welcomed the youngest members of our community who took part in the cycling obstacle course in the grounds of Howell’s. Cyclists began to arrive back at school from 4pm when they were rewarded for their efforts with a glass of fizz and a barbecue feast. Thank you to all the staff and parents who volunteered on the day; they all made it a great success!
