Sports Awards

This year, Howell’s School PE Department has offered the Endeavour Award to all students who actively take part in sport in and outside school. The award supports Sport Wales and encourages and rewards participation in sport. It is especially useful to understand the students’ hidden talents and try to accommodate these in school. The award is based on the number of hours that young adults keep fit each week. The bronze award is offered for participation in sport between 1-3 hours per week, silver for 4-6, gold for 7-10 and platinum for 7-11. Congratulations to all girls who received their Endeavour Award; keep it up!

The Sports Awards presentation 2015 was held on Monday 13th July and many sportswomen received a medal. Congratulations to the following girls who received “Most Improved Sports Girl of the Year”: Sadie E. (Year 7), Daisy S. (Year 8) and Emily C. (Year 9). These awards were based on students who have come a long way in sport since September, in PE lessons and in competitions.

As well as those who have greatly improved, there are certain athletes who have maintained and shown great maturity in sport, receiving “Sports Girl of the Year”. Well done to Lily R. (Year 7), Sarah O. (Year 8) and Louise S. (Year 9).

Elisabeth B. (Year 8) has been exceptional this year in effort, commitment, leadership and encouragement; therefore Elisabeth received the “Carol Jones Award for Courage and Commitment in Sport”. Congratulations!

The “Junior Team of the Year” is always a very difficult award to give out because there are so many strong teams in the school. This year, there was one particular team that shone. This team charged through to the County Finals undefeated, and here just missed out on the victory to Glantaf. The Year 7 Hockey Team are worthy receivers of this award and we hope that they continue to be great and try hard next season. Congratulations to, Lily R. (Capt), Robyn D., Katie G., Nia H., Lilli J., Alicia L., Georgia M-P., Evie O., Sophie S., Pascha T. and Annabelle W.

Two particular Year 9 students have been fantastic this year. One of these has shown exceptional teamwork and team encouragement. She has also been volunteering this year, supporting the Junior School clubs. The award of “Howell’s School Fair Play Award” went to Isabel S. The last award, “Junior Sports Person of the Year”, went to someone who is a crucial member of numerous sports clubs in and outside the school. This athlete has been training in the Wales Hockey National age group, set up at the start of the year. Congratulations to Charlotte J!
