On Monday 1st March and in celebration of St David’s Day, Howell’s Senior School and Co-Ed College held our first ever virtual Eisteddfod. It was a particularly special occasion as it was the 90th Eisteddfod held at Howell’s, and although we could not all be together in person, we were united with our celebration of music, poetry and song. In the morning, students completed their Herio@Howell’s challenges and in the afternoon over 370 staff and students logged in to Zoom for an online event hosted by Mrs Reed. The afternoon included Mrs Prys-Davies telling everyone more about St David, a Welsh recitation from students in Year 8 and the virtual performance of Sosban Fach featuring students from Nursery to College. The afternoon culminated in the eagerly anticipated Chairing of the Bard ceremony. There were fantastic poems submitted into the competition from many students, and the judges had the unenviable task of choosing the winners, who were:
Senior Bard: Tabitha H (Trotter)
Junior Bard: Samira Q (Kendall)
Many congratulations to this year’s bards and to everyone who submitted entries. When the points were added up the winning House was announced during assembly this morning. Congratulations to Lewis who was the overall winner. Thank you to Mrs Reed, Mrs Prys-Davies and everyone who worked so hard to make the afternoon so special.
