To mark the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act in 1918, the History department led Franchise Fun week from 23rd April, packed with activities, film screenings and lively debate. Activities took place to mark this hugely important moment in history, which extended the parliamentary franchise to women over 30. On Tuesday, Year 7 made suffragette banners and competed in a suffrage-themed quiz at lunchtime; Senior School girls enjoyed a fiery debate on Wednesday on the theme Deeds not Words and Thursday's screening of Suffragette was packed with students keen to watch the film. The week culminated in an election for the most influential woman in 2018 which generated lots of interest and debate. The overwhelming winner was the hugely inspirational activist for female education and youngest Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai!
Thank you very much to Mrs George and the History department for making the week such a success.
