After a thrilling triumph at the Cardiff & Vale Schools Final at the end of 2018, the Under 16 Howell's Hockey Team traveled to Swansea University on Thursday 21st February to take part in the National Final. Joined by the top schools from eight different regions of Wales, the standard of play was understandably very high! The girls started the day by defeating frequent Under 16 National Champions, Bishopston Comprehensive School (Swansea), 3-0. This was followed by a hard-fought 3-0 victory against Ysgol Brynhyfyrd (North East Wales). In perhaps their best performance of the day, Howell's scored some superbly well-worked team goals to defeat Caerleon Comprehensive School (South East Wales) 6-0 in their final group game. With three wins, Howell's progressed to the semi-final as group winners to take on Ysgol Bro Dinefwr (Dyfed). This was a particularly fast-paced encounter and three second half goals gave Howell's a 4-1 win. The momentum was snowballing as the team reached the final. Here, they took on Christ College Brecon (Powys) who had also won all four of their previous matches on the day. An incredible start gave Howell's an early lead, and they didn't look back. Great team play and a superb individual goal saw Howell's run out 4-0 victors in the final! It is the second national title that this team has achieved, adding it to their Under 14 National Championship from 2017. Congratulations to the team who continue to work incredibly hard on the hockey field and thoroughly deserve their success, making Mr Baker very proud!
