On Tuesday 23rd February, the Senior School House debate was hosted online for students to participate and develop their debating skills. We debated the motion 'This house believes that Batman is a better role model than Superman’, using the British Parliamentary format. It was an intriguing debate, with both sides of house offering fresh contributions to the table with each speaker. The proposition stated that Batman's use of mental agility over physical powers made him a more relatable superhero and showed that violence isn't always necessary in settling conflict. The opposition argued otherwise, saying that despite Superman's superhuman powers, Superman yearned to follow an ordinary life, and only took up his mantle of superhero when others were in danger, and his selfless mentality made him an ideal role model, particularly for young people. We all enjoyed the engaging motion - thank you house captains for hosting the debate - we are all eagerly awaiting the judge's results!
