Under 18 GDST Hockey Champions!

The 1st XI Hockey Team added another title to an already impressive resumé on Tuesday 15th October, returning from Northampton High School with the Under 18 GDST Championship. Following regional triumphs over Royal High School, Bath (10-0) and Portsmouth High School (7-0) during the previous week, the team set themselves up for a quarter final encounter with last year's Under 15 champions, Sheffield High School. After a quick start, Howell's maintained the pressure and ran out 5-0 victors with goals from Katie G (2), Pascha A, Elin J and Maisie R. A semi-final against Nottingham High School followed, with a similar pattern of play developing. Two early goals from captain Lily R (2) were supplemented by some well taken goals by Ellie L and Pascha, giving the girls an impressive 4-0 victory and subsequently sending them into the final. Last year's Under 18 champions Norwich High School were awaiting them, after an impressive victory against hosts Northampton High School in the other semi-final. Once again, Howell's started very brightly and took the lead with a third goal of the day for Pascha. The lead was doubled in the second half with a fine individual run and finish by Katie. After a Norwich goal reduced the lead to 2-1, Lily R struck again from a penalty corner with time running out to win the game 3-1 and send Howell's to their first ever Under 18 GDST title. It was another fantastic performance by the team, who add this trophy to their Under 15 GDST title and national Under 14 and Under 16 championships won over the last four hugely successful years.

Congratulations to all involved!
