Summer Concert

The Summer Concert, with its theme of Gardens, was a tremendous success this year. A concert in the afternoon followed by afternoon tea, in aid of the Noah’s Ark appeal, raised £2000. A magnificent stage erected in the Sports Hall featured trees, flowers, plants, the odd gnome and white picket fence.

The evening displayed a magnificent array of the school’s musical talent.  The audience was treated to beautiful music of ensembles including a flute and harp ensemble, a saxophone group, string ensemble, brass group, jazz group, clarinet ensemble, percussion group, the Repertoire Orchestra and Youth Choir members from Year 10. There were also musical presentations from the Nursery, Reception and Years 4 and 5 of the Junior School.

Intertwined between these groups were a violin duet and beautiful vocal solos from Riya K., Molly R., Ellie McD- G., and Rebecca P, as well as instrumental solos from Olivia G. (piano),  Ellie K. (oboe) and Katie J. (violin). As ever, the fabulous sounds of the Repertoire Orchestra and Youth Choir, conducted by Miss Jones, opened and closed the show in spectacular fashion.  Thanks to everyone involved, and also special thanks to all the staff who took to the stage: the comedy duet of Mr D T Evans and Mr L Morgan, a vocal solo from Dr I Morris, and a hilarious staff item of Bill and Ben, the Gnome Song and a maypole dance.

Sadly Mr Talbot Evans, the compère of the Summer Concert for the last fourteen years, retires at the end of this academic year; we thank him for everything that he has done and wish every happiness for the future. We also say goodbye to Miss Jones who is taking up a full-time post at Whitchurch High School. We thank her for being an inspirational teacher and a wonderful colleague. We take this opportunity to wish her every happiness and success for the future. She will be greatly missed.
