Hywelians take part in school Oral History Project

On 3rd May we were delighted to welcome four Hywelians, Miss Muriel Jeremy, Mrs Vivien Liles, Mrs Mary Lister and Mrs Joyce Shields, all of whom are in their late 70s or early 80s. They kindly agreed to come to discuss their schooldays in the late 1940s and early 1950s. They were interviewed by four girls from Year 8, Caitlin C., Caitlin P., Elysia G. and Anoushka N., and by Mrs Sully.  The four Hywelians talked in a most interesting and lively way for well over an hour on topics ranging from life in the boarding houses, strict rules and poor food to school trips, charity and dancing lessons! Mrs Liles brought in her photo album which contains a fascinating record of her schooldays as a boarder.

The Hywelians began the session with  coffee and Welsh cakes, and after the interviews they enjoyed lunch in Mrs Davis's room. The interviews were recorded for posterity and an edited version will be shown in the forthcoming Founders' Friday assembly, which the whole school community will be able to watch. We are extremely grateful to them for giving up their time to come in and share their memories.
