Howell's Chess Team wins National Championship

Many congratulations to  Howell's A Junior School chess team, winners of the National Schools' Chess Championship in the U11 Girls' category.  The  Champions (Shayanna, Venetia and Neya) performed superbly over the two day tournament in a 5-round all-play-all against the strongest primary school teams in the UK, dropping only 1.5 points and with Neya scoring 5/5. Well done also to the Howell's B team (Emily, Susie and Shermin) who finished fourth in this tough competition.  Many thanks to Andrew Martin and St Catherine's School, Bramley,  for hosting the event, and to Kevin Thomas, the chess coach, for taking time off over the Easter holidays to support the girls. Thanks also to the parents for braving dormitories, school dinners - and cold showers! Very well done, girls!
